This is my snippet for Weekend Writing Warriors (www.wewriwa.com) where writers share 8 – 10 lines of their work, for others to see and comment. Please follow and comment about others on the list.
I am starting a new book this week, called The Artist. Although this has been accepted for publication, it hasn’t yet been edited and I don’t yet have a date for publication, or a cover picture. This is an historical erotic romance, based in England in the 1850s. Theodore (Theo for short) is the son of a Viscount, but has rejected the life of an aristocrat to live as a rather bohemian artist. He has an eye for pretty girls, whom he likes to paint in the nude. Lizzie is a poor village girl who made a disastrous marriage, from which she has fled, and is destitute. When Theo asks her to be his artist’s model, she swallows her natural modesty and accepts. Unused to posing, she finds it quite tiring.
“My apologies, Sir, but my leg has gone quite numb. I really need to stretch it a little.”
He looked a little irritated, but acquiesced grudgingly.
“Very well, stand up and stretch if you must, but please do not move far as I simply must make use of all the available light and it will soon be twilight.”
Lizzie stood up and almost overbalanced as she put her weight on the numb leg. She reached for her robe. It was strange that she could lie around naked for any number of hours that Mr Harper sketched and painted her, but the moment that she came out of her pose, she felt the need for the decorum of the robe. She could no more stride around the room naked than she could run down the lane in such a state, but the thought of walking around the room naked made her flesh shiver and gave her a pleasant feeling in her groin. She tried to rid her mind of such naughty thoughts.
Although I don’t yet have a cover picture, I see my two main characters like these two scrumptious people. They are the actors who are in the British TV series of Poldark (well worth seeing). Sorry that the quality of the photo is not great, because I photographed it from a newspaper picture (and probably broke copyright rules, but you won’t tell, will you?) I have tasked the art department at Blushing Books with finding two models who look just as good to put on my book cover.

This is a change, Rachel. Other characters of yours don’t try to get rid of naughty thought!

Don’t worry, Ed, I’m sure that after spending time with Theo she won’t want to to get rid of them!

Getting her to model for him is a great excuse for him to get a pretty woman to take off all her clothes. The question is how long before matters go any further…

Not very long is the short answer! Thank you for commenting.

Striding around the house naked, even when alone, can feel very naughty. I think she’ll get used to it, however, with Theo to encourage her. This story sounds so fresh! Excellent snippet.

Thanks Jenna. This is the first paragraph of the story. Later we go back to read their backstories. I had the artist Lucien Freud in mind when I started the book, except a younger, more handsome version! A bit like the actor from Poldark in my picture. Well, it is fiction, isn’t it?

Don’t worry, she has lots of opportunities to stretch her limbs, in between posing! Thanks for your comment. I agree with you about the picture. I shall be most upset if I can’t find a model for the cover that is at least as good looking. I wonder if the actor who plays the part is free for a little part-time modelling?

Very neat snippet. Can’t wait to see what else is in store for these two!

Thanks Madeline. I thought I would ease into the book, rather than jumping in at the deep end.

This is a convenient occupation for a man who likes pretty girls! It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out. I strongly agree with your choice of cover models. 🙂

Thanks Christina. Yes, I wish I could afford this guy to be my cover model. I’m sure my book sales would shoot up!

Great cover models to set as your role models. Fingers crossed! Enjoyed the snippet and found her need to grab her robe as soon as she was done “acting” to be perfectly understandable. I’m sure though that this artist will soon convince her that she doesn’t need to “act” innocent around him..

Yes, circumstances soon tip in Theo’s favour. I fear that her modesty will soon become ‘compromised’! Thanks for commenting.

Thanks Heather. Sorry, I haven’t read too many others this week, as I had to go to the hospital for a minor procedure. All well, but told to rest up, and I have slept every time I sit in the armchair!

Thanks Teresa. I think the model might soon be corrupted by the artist! Sorry I didn’t get to read many other snippets this week – short hospital stay, but back home now. Will catch up next week.
