Weekend Writing Warriors – June 5

This is my snippet for Weekend Writing Warriors (www.wewriwa.com) where writers share 8 – 10 lines of their work, for others to see and comment. Please follow and comment about others on the list.

I am again taking a snippet from my upcoming book, The Artist. This book has been accepted for publication and is in the process of being edited. The expected publication date is August 8. This is an historical erotic romance, based in England in the 1850s. Theodore (Theo for short) is the son of a Viscount, but has rejected the life of an aristocrat to live as a rather bohemian artist. He has an eye for pretty girls, whom he likes to paint in the nude. Lizzie is a poor village girl who made a disastrous marriage, from which she has fled, and is destitute. When Theo asks her to be his artist’s model, she swallows her natural modesty and accepts. Theo is very attracted to Lizzie, but, so far, he has managed to restrain himself, for fear of frightening her away.

Living in the barn, as she had been, Lizzie is concerned that her clothes might be starting to smell, and she has no others to change into.  Theo comes up with an idea.

Not waiting for the apple he had promised her, she was out of the kitchen and walking towards the studio. By the time that Theo caught up with her she was already undressed, with the robe wrapped around her body. Theo suddenly got a bright idea, about the girl’s clothing, which was beginning to smell.

“As you are not going to be needing your dress for the rest of the day, and it is sunny outside, why don’t you go into the scullery and wash it and hang it up outside to dry? I can wait for you so long as you don’t take too long about it.”

Lizzie quickly appreciated the practically of the suggestion, and knew it would solve her problem of how to wash her only garments. She scooted off to the scullery and washed everything, even her undergarments. Outside the back door was an open space with a couple of bushes that were in the sunshine and out of sight of possible visitors to the house. She was embarrassed about exposing her undergarments to view like this, at the home of a single man, but needs must.

So, another problem solved.  Sorry to keep you hanging on if you were expecting some hot stuff this week.  I have to drag it out a bit as my publication date is not until August.  Consider this extended foreplay!

If you wish to read previous excerpts of this book, links are below.  As before, I have no cover picture to show, so I will go back to my fantasy characters, the two leading actors from the TV series, Poldark.  If you ever watch this series, be sure to remember that they are called Ross and Demelza, and not Theo and Lizzie!

  1. Ingenious solution to the problem. And very kind of him to suggest it. I think Lizzie has found the right gentleman at last. So unfortunate she’s married, but that may work itself out as well.

    1. Thank you Charmaine. I am not deliberately keeping you hanging, honest! I tried to reach your blog via your wewriwa link, but it didn’t work. However, I can now access your page from the link on the email, so will go back and read your snippet.

    1. Yes, that would cause a problem. I have to admit that when I wrote it, the thought of them disappearing never occurred to me, so I think her clothes, such as they are, are safe. Thanks for commenting.
