I am again taking a snippet from The Russian Bride. Natasha has arrived home to find armed men in her home. They have been looking for Boris, the man whom Natasha had thought was her stepfather, but Boris, it seemed, was willing to sacrifice both Natasha and her mother to save his skin. (Warning: the following snippet contains an act of violence.) The last line from last week was:
“She’s not my daughter, and Galina is not my wife. Take them both. I’m sick of having them around me.” (which continues…)
Galina burst into floods of tears, but Natasha was too shocked to make a sound. Viktor looked at them both and then at Boris.
“Yes, I will take your two women. But that doesn’t let you off the hook. I never forgive my enemies.”
Viktor reached out to his bodyguard, who handed him his gun and, without hesitation, he pumped two bullets into Boris from the silenced gun.
Natasha began to scream, but her sound was cut off when one of the men put his hand across her mouth, and the other pulled a syringe from his pocket and injected it into her thigh. She was unconscious within seconds.
****
When she regained consciousness, Natasha found she was seated in a plane, in what seemed to be a small airfield, when she glanced out through the window. Feeling quite groggy, she had no idea how long she had been unconscious.
I hope I haven’t spoiled your peaceful Sunday mornings.
Natasha, a Russian-born woman living in London, catches the eye of Viktor, a middle-aged Russian gangster. He wants her as his wife, the mother of his son, and his submissive partner in the kinky sex he enjoys at his isolated home near Saint Petersburg. But he doesn’t ask her to accompany him – he just takes what he wants.
Surprisingly, Natasha begins to accept her new life. Is she really a natural submissive, or has Viktor brainwashed her? Viktor is adamant that he will not have sex with her until they are married, but he shows her just how kinky he likes it by taking her to orgies held by his friend, and tells her that this is the type of life she can expect as his wife.
Everything turns sour, however, and on a visit to London, Natasha has to flee for her life – where businessman, James Miller, comes to her aid. Over the course of the next few days, Natasha tells James her story, and as horrified as he is, he cannot deny his attraction to the beautiful young woman. He vows to help her.
Neither of them realize quite how much danger they will be in for defying Viktor, but James is willing to risk everything to rescue her from this man. Can he do it? And does Natasha return his feelings?

Well, Boris deserved that, but Natasha and her mother don’t deserve what they witnessed, and what will come next.

Whilst things look bad at present, it might not end up quite as bad as they fear.

I agree with Jessica. Poor Natasha and Galina. Things don’t look good for them…

Yes, it’s a rough world out there in gangster land.

Good action. The violence didn’t shock me. It was appropriate for the story.

Thanks Cara. I don’t normally write about violence, but as you say, it was appropriate right there.

Let the story unfold. It will all be revealed and soon, I hope. Rachel, this is a fine scene with dreadful men taking two women. I will tune in next week.

Thank you Charmaine. This story is a bit darker than previous ones I have written.

Uh oh. Witnessing a murder – then being drugged and kidnapped – not a good day. Great snippet.

Thanks, Veronica. I’m afraid you will have to wait 2 weeks. I forgot to tell everyone that I would be in Portugal next week. So no post.

Yikes! I was kind of expecting that, but it’s still shocking. Worried for Natasha and her mom.

Thank you, Ed. As I said above, I don’t normally like writing about violence. But the scene called for something more than a sock on the jaw.

If you hadn’t written the murder scene, the book would have been weaker. I didn’t see that coming, though.

I like to surprise (and even shock) my reader occasionally. I also wanted to establish what kind of a man Viktor was.

I agree with Cara–appropriate violence. Scary for the women, though. And then being drugged and kidnapped? Holy cow. What next? Great snippet.

Thanks Elyzabeth. You will have to wait an extra week, I’m afraid. I’m off to Portugal for a week, and have decided to have a break from posting over Easter.
